2021 Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos: Can You Crack the Code?

1426 × 616
Riddle us this: What limited-edition luxury vehicle comes with a built-in mystery that has yet to be solved and confused just about every amateur detective on the web? The 2021 Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos, of course.

The mystery of the Wraith began in July of 2020, when a total of 50 models shipped out from London. Found on each Wraith car are a series of cryptic messages; when those messages are deciphered, the clues unveil a solution, which will lead one lucky Wraith owner to an unknown prize.

What’s the prize? Only two people in the entire world know the answer, and they’ve sealed the solution in a pristine envelop, within a safe, at Rolls-Royce's HQ. The game, it seems, is afoot.

Wraith Kryptos Clues

Confirmed Clues

Hidden in plain view, the Wraith Kryptos features several coded messages. Finding those messagesthat's your goal.

After 6 months without a lead, Rolls-Royce dropped a hint that the cryptographic journey begins at the crest of Wraith’s hood. If you look closely, you can see the coded word “KRYPTOS” is engraved in Rolls-Royce cipher around the base of the Spirit of Ecstasy figurine.

Inside, the Wraith unveils another clue: The normal “RR” monogram on the headrests is part of the code. How the double-R stitching plays into the labyrinthian puzzle is outlined in Rolls-Royce's official presser.

From there, you must find and develop a working “key”—a key is a piece of information (a parameter) that determines the functional output of a cryptographic algorithm—to decipher all remaining codes.

Possible Clues

The entire interior and exterior of the Wraith sedan offer clues and ciphertext—but where? If you look with the correct perspective, as Rolls-Royce says, you just might spot them.

Start with the iconic Starlight Headliner, which looks different than the one in other Rolls-Royce automobiles. Reimagined with fiberoptic lights, Wraith Kryptos’s headliner offers one clue as to where to look next. Its alignment if lights looks vaguely reminiscent of a key, which could be the key to decipher the rest. Could that be a private key to a cryptocurrency wallet (BTC or BCH, for instance)? Maybe.

Door pockets are also lit with special ambient lighting, which may illuminate yet another cipher to decrypt.

Outside, the coded text lines the silhouetted side panels, all the way to the taillights. With the luxurious Delphic Gray smoke coloring, the hand-painted pinstriped codes are easy to spot—but are there other subtle messages in the green-lit fender?

Could GPS coordinates be hidden within its prominently displayed CO2 emissions and fuel economy figures (no other Rolls-Royce model highlights these features so directly)?

NEDC (combined): CO2 emission: 365-363 g/km; Fuel consumption: 17.7-17.8 mpg / 16.0-15.9 l/100km *. WLTP (combined): CO2 emission: 369-357 g/km; Fuel consumption: 17.3-17.9 mpg / 16.3-15.8 l/100km #
